Man sentenced to 3 years in prison for fatal 2016 Father's Day crash
The man convicted in the fatal 2016 Father's Day crash in Bridgeport was sentenced Tuesday to three years behind bars.
David Henshaw was going up to 140 mph on a street where the speed limit is 25 mph when his car slammed into Petey Soto's car, which split in half. The Bridgeport police chief described the scene as something similar to a bomb site.
Henshaw was found guilty of manslaughter, misconduct with a motor vehicle and reckless driving. Police say Henshaw didn't remember the crash and couldn't explain why he was driving so fast.
"David Henshaw dismembered my son," says Sonia Henry, Soto's mom. "We weren't able to have an open casket funeral. The last memory I have of my son is on a gurney in three piles."
Henshaw's attorney asked the judge to consider that his client had no previous criminal history. He told the judge his client lived a responsible and generous life.
Soto, who was a chef and father of two, was just 31 years old at the time of the crash.
Henry told the judge any sentence imposed on Henshaw would pale in comparison to the one she's been serving.
"I'll never see my son grow old, celebrate birthdays, hug him, kiss him, talk or ever see him again," said Henry.
Henry told News 12 that she is pleased with the outcome. She said she's now ready for the next chapter -- the grieving process -- since she hasn't been able to properly mourn the loss of her son.
