Plans for the first phase of Manresa Island's transformation were revealed Thursday in Norwalk. Organizers hope to open a 28-acre section called the Northern Forest to the public in 2027.
The site, once approved, will welcome Norwalk residents back for the first time in nearly 75 years, after it served as a coal-ash dump for power plants.
Working with environmental specialists, the process will take significant remediation and ecological restoration.
The vision includes a one-mile trail, three small activity zones, and restored coastal and forest habitat.
Manresa Island Corp. says this phase sets the tone for the full 125-acre community park and reflects the community’s vision for a safe, passive, and nature-centered public space.
