It took every firefighter in Milford with help from surrounding communities to combat the blaze that destroyed Milford Fabricating plant Tuesday morning.
Workers at the plant say the fire started accidentally at around 9 a.m. in the business's laser and punch area. Containers of compressed argon and nitrogen gasses exploded and fueled the flames, but, luckily, no one was hurt.
Firefighters spent two and a half hours managing the blaze. They say 6-inch water mains supplied 800 gallons a minute; however, a fire that size requires 2,000 gallons a minute.
The plant supplied parts to several area businesses including Sikorsky and Yale University Hospital. Sources tell News 12 Connecticut that as many as 80 people from the plant may now be out of work due to the fire.VIEWER-SUBMITTED PHOTOS
