An event was held Sunday to celebrate the memory of a Stamford High School graduate who died several years ago.
The sixth annual MarcUS for Change 5K Walk and Run honored the memory of Marcus Dixon McInerney, but also raised money to be able to support mentoring initiatives in Stamford.
"We had decided that mentoring was probably based on all the studies, the most greatest single factor of influence for young people and that that could change lives," says Rose McInerney.
The 5K itself was part of a bigger initiative by the Stamford Public Education Foundation called US Day, or United Stamford Day. It brought the MarcUS for Change 5K Walk and Run, STEM fest and the mayor's multicultural council children's parade all to Mill River Park
Overall, 2,000 people attended and out of that, 875 walked or ran.
The event also featured some fun activities like a kids zone, bouncy house and pumpkin painting. There were also food trucks on hand.
