Southwestern Connecticut motorists who are feeling pain at the pump can take advantage of money saving tips. News 12 Connecticut?s Kristin Thorne hit the road for a series of mileage tests in a special series called "Maximizing Your Mileage." In Part I, the focus was to see if a motorist would save more money in gas by driving at 55 miles per hour or 70 miles per hour. At 55 miles per hour, a 50-mile trip, five days a week would cost a motorist $1,300 a year. At 70 miles per hour, a driver would spend about $1,400 per year for the same trip. However, driving at the slower speed added 15 minutes to the commute.
