Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim declared a heat emergency Monday as the temperature hit 93 degrees - tying the record set in 1949.

"This is definitely an emergency, and that's why we've turned on the city's five splash pads and opened all of our cooling centers, so folks can be safe - especially our residents who are older adults and those who are disabled," Ganim told News 12.

Ganim added that the bus and train station, as well as public libraries and senior centers, are open during regular business hours.
