Newly sworn in Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim on Wednesday announced that he will order traffic engineers to study a busy intersection where at least five accidents have occurred over the past year.
The latest crash at the intersection of Noble Avenue and Jane Street happened last Sunday.
The Congregation of Yahweh church sits at the corner of the two streets. During Sunday's crash, a vehicle slammed through the front fence moments after a group of parishioners had walked through that same area.
Church leaders says they were grateful when Ganim and state Rep. Christopher Rosario came to meet with them Wednesday morning - at the request of News 12 Connecticut - to discuss their safety concerns. They say they have been contacting city officials on their own to no avail.
Ganim and Rosario say it usually takes about a month or two from the time they request a study for a hearing to be held. However, they are going to request that the Board of Police Commissioners - which oversees traffic studies and safety changes - rush this case due to the high number of collisions.
