State police say medical examiners conducted an autopsy on the infant that died at a Norwalk day care this week, however, the Medical Examiner's Office says more study is needed before determining a cause of death.

The state has also summarily suspended the license of the day care. The licensing director for the Office of Early Childhood told News 12 Connecticut they deemed that the "heath, safety, or welfare" of the children "requires emergency action."

State police took charge of the investigation into the sudden death of the baby on Thursday.

Prosecutors say they want to avoid a possible conflict of interest because the facility is owned by the daughter of Norwalk's mayor and former police chief, Harry Rilling.

Police responded to the home on Hunters Lane Wednesday afternoon.

They say someone there called 911 to report a 4-month-old girl was not breathing. First responders rushed the girl to Norwalk hospital, but she could not be saved.

This is the third time an infant has died at a home day care in southwestern Connecticut this year.

Day care owner Christine Limone has a licensing hearing set for next week.
