Metro-North launches train to Yankee games
Metro-North announced Wednesday that Yankees fans living in Connecticut will now be able to take direct trains from Stamford to Yankee Stadium.
The new line will begin operating May 23 and allow fans to travel to games without using the New York City subway. Tickets for the direct train line will cost slightly more than trains to Grand Central. Riders will have to pay 75 cents more each way on off-peak hours and $1 extra each way for peak trains on the direct line. Riders with commuter passes will not be charged extra.
Direct express trains will begin two hours before games and start up again 45 minutes after the last out on weekends. During the week, though, express trains will not be offered because of rush hour. As an alternative, Metro-North shuttles will transport residents between Grand Central and Yankee Stadium with just one stop at 125th Street in Harlem.
Shuttles will run two hours before the game, throughout the game and two hours after the game. Metro-North employees say alcohol is permitted on the train but cannot be in open containers.
To watch Chopper 12 above the new Metro-North station at Yankee Stadium, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and select iO Extra.
