Riders on the New Haven line are experiencing heavier delays due to safety measures recently put in place by Metro-North, transit officials say.
In an effort to allow passengers to board trains safely, Metro-North trains along the New Haven line now line up accurately with the bridgeplate. Transit officials say this safety measure is causing delays since trains are stopping at each station a few minutes longer than usual.
Jim Cameron, chairman of the Connecticut Rail Commuter Council, says he is more concerned about the safety of Metro-North riders than the inconvenience it?s causing them.
?It keeps commuters on the right platform,? says Cameron. ?The bridgeplates have overhead canopies to protect them from the weather and there's a person here selling coffee and newspapers. It's business as usual.?
Only riders along the New Haven line are being affected by the new measure. They account for nearly 50 percent of all Metro-North riders.
