Members of the Milford community gathered Saturday to mark one year since the death of 16-year-old Maren Sanchez.
Authorities say the Jonathan Law High School student was stabbed to death by a classmate after declining his prom invitation.
Family and friends honored Sanchez's memory with a daylong event at the school called "Peace Love & Music from Maren." The celebration had a theme of purple, which was Sanchez's favorite color.
The event featured a 5K fun run, a kickball tournament, an art competition and a bounce house for children. Live music was played throughout the day.
All money raised at the event will go toward the Maren Sanchez Scholarship Fund.
Organizers say Sanchez's spirit was at the school Saturday with everyone who took part. Going forward, organizers hope to hold similar events every year.
