Members of the Sons of American Legion in Milford are trying to raise funds for a monument to honor veterans of modern wars.
"We call it the last monument because hopefully there won't be any more conflicts that we'll need monuments for," says legion member George DeMayo, Sr.
The group plans on holding monthly fundraisers until enough money is collected to erect a monument for veterans from the first Gulf War through present day. Legion members say the project could take some time because they need to raise enough funds before they can commission a design.
Once the funds are raised, the group says it will ask local art students to submit design proposals and present one to the city.
