A local man is giving veterans hope during this emotional time of year.
Frank Zabski, from Milford, has always wanted to help war heroes since his dad was a veteran.
"I truly believe that U.S. veterans are very underserved and it always kind of pains my heart and I just want to give back as much as I can," said Zabski.
A few years ago, he started Operation St. Nicholas, which gives veterans in need a Christmas tree, a patriotic wreath and a gift bag.
"The holiday season is the worst time for veterans in general," said Anthony Spinola.
Spinola is a Navy veteran, who is involved at VFW Post 7788 in Milford. He says this act of kindness is truly appreciated by those who have served the nation.
Zabski setup a GoFundMe page and hopes to raise $7,500. He hopes this year to help 76 veterans.
Zabski also expanded his mission to veterans at the Columbus House in New Haven who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk.
