The Milford Police Department welcomed a new K-9 service and therapy dog to the force.
K-9 Winston joins Patrolman First Class Jimmy Cox who has been with the Milford Police Department for nearly a decade.
Kox says he has responded to thousands of calls over the years, including domestic incidents.
The department recently brought on board two new social workers and Winston, who can join them on certain calls in the field.
It's an idea Cox came up with a couple years ago. He says he just wrapped up training with Winston a few weeks ago and immediately got to work.
Cox says he and Winston recently helped a child who was having suicidal thoughts.
Winston was able to respond to the child and provide comfort.
Winston will provide peer support for the department's officers and visit schools, hospitals, businesses and more.
