Emergency responders in Milford erected a mobile hospital Sunday to test their skills in case of a disaster.

The Lundgren Memorial Hospital was set up on two trailers just behind Harborside Middle School. The hospital can hold up to 100 beds, as well as an intensive care unit, an isolation area and a triage area.

Generators are used to power the hospital and a central air system controls the climate. According to emergency responders, one limitation of the mobile hospital is its tent structure, which prevents hospital workers from controlling the sterility of the open environment and therefore prevents doctors and surgeons from performing procedures like open-heart surgery.

The Milford Health Department will be holding a ?vote and vaccinate? clinic at the mobile hospital on Election Day, Tuesday Nov. 4 to offer residents flu shots after they cast their ballots.
