New FAA flight paths are set to send additional air traffic over the communities of New Canaan, Wilton and Weston.
The Federal Aviation Administration has committed to a new and controversial rerouting plan that moves air traffic east of Westchester County Airport. New Canaan First Selectman Judy Neville says not only will air traffic increase, but some of the planes will circle around awaiting their turn to land at Westchester County Airport. Under the new plan, planes would circle primarily between 4,000 and 5,000 feet.
The FAA says the holding pattern will be used during major delays caused by issues like bad weather.
Neville says both Greenwich and parts of Stamford will be affected as well. She says she was not pleased when she first learned of the plan. She says it is an intrusion on the quality of life of residents and that it will not solve the FAA?s problems.
There is no official word on when the plan will be enacted, but Neville says a decision on that could come as early as Labor Day.
