A Bethel mother is distraught after learning a plea deal is in the works that could shorten the sentence for her daughter's accused killer.

Jenn Lawlor's daughter Emily was murdered in Bridgeport by a man police say she met on a dating website.

Lawlor expressed anger as she says the prosecutor and judge move toward a plea deal that could send accused killer Brandon Roberts to jail for 45 years. She says that sentence represents a miscarriage of justice.

"My little boy is 9, I should never have to tell him that when I am in my 90s, his sister's murderer will be released ... that is just not OK, says Lawlor.

Lawlor says she was surprised to learn Emily's case does not qualify for provisions that suggest a longer sentence, such as the killing of a police officer or young child.
