Bridgeport police say a motorcyclist who crashed into a city bus earlier this afternoon has died.
The crash happened off Noble Avenue between Shelton and Jane streets.
Authorities say it appears the bus had the right of way and was making a turn when the motorcycle came through the intersection at a high rate of speed. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and became trapped under the bus.
Doug Holcomb, the CEO of Greater Bridgeport Transit, says the motorcycle blew a stop sign and struck the bus.
"Our drivers are heavily trained in defensive driving," Holcomb says. "This is definitely an unfortunate event for everybody involved."
Police say it does not appear that the bus driver, a nine-year veteran, was at fault, but they're reviewing surveillance video of the crash.
Two passengers and the bus driver were also hospitalized with minor injuries.
Authorities say bikers should wear helmets when riding.
