Loads of travelers packed up the car and headed out of town today for Memorial Day weekend.
AAA says it expects more than 36 million Americans to travel this holiday weekend. It says that's the most since 2005.
AAA spokesperson Fran Mayko says the number is so high because people feel better about the economy and they just endured a long, harsh winter.
Mayko also says that almost 90 percent of Americans who are traveling will drive to their destinations.
While the average national gas price has pretty much stayed the same since last year's holiday weekend, it's a different story for Connecticut. The state's average is 13 cents higher than last year.
Mayko says to expect a lot of traffic if you are driving to a weekend getaway.
