National Flag Day celebrated around Connecticut
National Flag Day was celebrated around the state on Wednesday.
Members of American Legion Post 196 in Milford greeted staff members inside the Subway headquarters with balloons, flags and poppies. The legion says the poppies symbolize soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Proceeds from the poppy sales will benefit the VA hospital in West Haven and local veterans programs.
In Stamford, Mayor David Martin was joined by local firefighters and police officers outside the Government Center to raise the American flag.
Wednesday marked the 240th anniversary of the adoption of the American flag by the Second Continental Congress.
