There are some gems coming to Netflix in August that you should be aware of, and a bunch of originals that may be worth a shot.

We begin with the original Rocky movies (before they ditched the Roman numerals). They arrive early on August 1. If you haven't seen them (you have), make sure to sit down and watch them – especially Rocky III. The rise of Clubber Lang, the fall of Mickey, and the Apollo/Rocky training sequences where Rocky finds the "Eye of the Tiger" is equivalent to cinematic gold.

Sly wrote each of these movies and directed Rocky II, III, IV.

Fans of the first season of Mindhunter have been waiting for a follow-up since it premiered in 2017. It follows two FBI agents who create the first criminal profiles for serial killers in the United States over the course of interviews with said killers. The series is based on the book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit by John E. Douglas and his co-author Mark Bolshaker. Watch. This. Series.

Also, fans of Zodiak only have until Aug. 6 before it's killed off.

Lastly, Gangs of New York – one of those movies that if you find while browsing the dial (I'm old), you must leave on. It was an early DiCaprio/Scorsese collaboration that just worked. Daniel Day Lewis steals the show as Bill the Butcher. It arrives on Aug. 20.
