State legislators met in Hartford Wednesday to introduce a bill for stronger laws on gun safety.Currently, there is no state law in Connecticut requiring gun owners to report a lost or stolen firearm. State police and prosecutors say oftentimes, those stolen guns are the ones used to commit crimes. The proposed legislation would require a gun owner to report a lost or stolen gun within 72 hours or face criminal penalties. State Senator Andrew McDonald (D-Stamford) says if passed the bill would close a loophole and could reduce the number of crimes involving guns.
