UPDATE 5/22/2018: The charges against Andrew Knight have been dismissed after successful completion of a court approved educational program. The court ordered erasure of any and all records pertaining to the defendant’s arrest.
A New Canaan father and son are facing charges in connection to an underage drinking party where a teenager was seriously hurt.
The arrests of Douglas and Andrew Knight come nearly two months after the incident, during which police say the victim lay unconscious and bleeding for more than 30 minutes before 911 was called.
Andrew Knight, 18, is charged with providing alcohol to minors at a party he hosted, while his father is accused of demanding no one call 911 to help the guest who was hurt.
Phone records and witness statements show Knight called his parents to tell them what happened but his father, Douglas Knight, ordered him not to call 911.
Police Chief Leon Krolikowski says after several weeks, investigators found no proof the injury wasn't an accident despite rumors to the contrary. But police say a crime did occur in delaying medical treatment.
Douglas and Andrew Knight turned themselves in Thursday. Both Knights posted $5,000 bonds and will appear in court in a couple weeks.
Krolikowski tells News 12 that the victim is back in school and doing better than doctors expected. Krolikowski calls the incident a cautionary tale for parents and teens.
