New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski says his department is getting tough on underage drinking.
He says that underage drinking has become a major problem, and he is now ready to crack down on those kids and their parents.
The chief tells News 12 that when they typically bust an underage party, a few kids might be charged, but most of them are free to go. He says the department will now target every kid who they know is drinking.
Krolikowski wants to send out letters to the parents of every child suspected of drinking and give them two options - the underage drinkers can either be criminally charged or enter new diversionary programs on the weekends with their parents.
Those four-hour, New Canaan-based classes will only be a one-time offer, Krolikowski says. The second offense will result in an arrest.
