New Covenant Center calls on community to help find temporary space

On any given day, the cafeteria at New Covenant Center in Stamford serves up hundreds of meals for those in need.
The space has since been transformed into a sorting and packing facility.
For the past seven months, the center has offered grab-and-go meals instead because of the pandemic.
With colder weather upon us, the current space on Richmond Hill Avenue is not big enough to accommodate indoor meals again.
Executive director John Gutman is calling on the community for help
"My message is, anyone in the community that has a space within 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile or knows of a space that we can go in on a temporary basis. And I wanna emphasize that if that landlord continues to want to rent that space to somebody else on a permanent basis, we will be out of there within two weeks of notification, even during the winter," he says.
The ideal space would be located on the west side of Stamford, around 3,000 to 4,000 square feet with bathrooms and heat.
"We all believe that everyone deserves a shot of dignity when they're eating, for a basic utility like food," says Gutman.
Anyone who knows of a space can call Gutman at 203-964-8228 x 401, or e-mail him at jgutman@ccfc-ct.org.
