The latest word from Hartford on the state budget is that the deficit for the current fiscal year has grown to $72 million.
The nonpartisan Office of Fiscal Analysis now puts the deficit at a higher level than the governor's budget office did at the end of the December session which projected the shortfall to be just $7.1 million.
The big difference appears to be in cuts yet to be made by Gov. Dannel Malloy before the end of the fiscal year on June 30.
Lawmakers head back to Hartford for the start of the regular session next Wednesday.
