A proposed green energy project in New Windsor is no longer getting the green light from town officials.

Town Supervisor Steven Bedetti says the town acted after the developer, AHC Development Construction Consulting, clear-cut dozens of trees that were supposed to be left as a buffer between the site on Windsor Highway and Route 32.

Bedetti says the project was initially given a conditional approval by the Planning Board and that the applicant and property owner, Solexus LLC, was allowed to begin clear-cutting trees.

News 12 was alerted to the issue by a neighbor concerned with the appearance of the property who sent us photos of cut trees and logs piled in stacks on the property.

AHC President Keith Libold tells News 12 their contractor mistakenly cut trees that were supposed to be left behind and that they’ve submitted a new proposal which includes replacing trees in the original, agreed upon buffer zone on the property.

"I'm a longtime resident and will do the right thing," says Libold.

The company says the solar farm would provide two megawatts of community solar energy for hundreds of local Central Hudson customers who may prefer switching to a clean energy source.
