Like many communities across the world, Bridgeport celebrated the 65th anniversary of D-Day Saturday - but the city did it by unveiling a new World War II memorial.
The memorial, however, honors more than just the men who sacrificed their lives for their country, says the memorial's designer, Navy Cmdr. Ted Grabarz. He says the memorial also honors the families that sacrificed at home and the factory workers who churned out munitions and supplies.
"We wanted to get a sense of the industry that participated in that effort," Grabarz says.
With the unveiling on this historic day, the reviews came in as well.
"I don't think it could be any better," says Bill Finch, Sr., a WWII veteran.
