Although legal recreational marijuana sales in Connecticut won't begin until next year, one community is already considering banning shops from their town.
The Newtown Planning and Zoning Commission discussed medical dispensary facilities and prohibiting uses in town during a meeting Thursday night.
Many members around the table say with the quick decision to legalize marijuana by the state, it puts them in a fragmented situation as they don't yet understand the impacts it could have on their community.
But other members question how closing the door now to dispensaries could impact them in the future.
The commission voted to prohibit marijuana establishments on town, but it's not closing the door to the concept and are interested in revisiting the topic in the future.
