A deal on gaming expansion in Connecticut has been rejected.
Gov. Ned Lamont spent months trying to reach a deal with the tribes who run Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. They have exclusive rights to gambling in Connecticut.
A source close to the negotiations says the tribes rejected the deal proposed by Lamont.
It offered the tribes rights to offer sports betting, but in exchange they would have to agree to build a casino in Bridgeport as well as scale back their plans for a new casino in East Windsor. That move was designed to appease MGM, which recently opened a casino in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Right now, MGM is pitching its own plan for a Bridgeport resort. But with no deal, that project has been put on hold.
Sources say Lamont is committed to bringing a casino project to Bridgeport.
