A Bridgeport family was forced out of its home Monday by a fire that consumed the second floor of the house.
The fire began shortly after 6 a.m. on Huntington Turnpike. Fire officials say there were two people in the home at the time, but both escaped without injury.
Firefighters say that most of the damage was on the second floor, but told the family that it was still unsafe to remain in the home.
"I guess there was enough damage where we had to call in [the] Red Cross and have these people relocated," Bridgeport firefighter Manuel Firpi says.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
