A nonprofit is offering extra assistance to thousands of families struggling due the COVID-19 pandemic.
People having a hard time paying rent, utility bills, or even buying food could receive special help from ABCD under a new COVID-19 relief plan.
Executive Director Dr. Monette Ferguson says people who qualify could receive a one-time payment of up to $200 toward those expenses.
Ferguson encourages people to apply under the new program, even if they've been turned down for help in the past.
Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim was joined by Sen. Richard Blumenthal today in promoting the new program.
"ABCD is using federal dollars to offer a lifeline to people at a time of unprecedented pain," says Blumenthal.
Bridgeport, Norwalk, Westport, Fairfield, Stratford, Trumbull, Monroe and Easton residents are eligible.
