A nonprofit organization is one step closer to owning the site of a New London church that collapsed in January, bringing the group closer to its goal of transforming the property into a mixed-use development.
The New London City Council unanimously approved an agreement Tuesday night that aims to streamline the process for the nonprofit to acquire the land. The plan includes developing the site into a building featuring apartments and businesses.
The steeple of Engaging Heaven Church collapsed in January. City officials determined that the more than 200-year-old church, built in 1810, was unsafe and needed to be demolished.
