A local nonprofit organization teamed up with city officials to get free produce to Bridgeport families.
Harry Bell, of the Color A Positive Thought initiative, thanked Amy Stefanowski for making the giveaway possible. He says 1,500 20-pound boxes of food will be passed out.
"It's amazing because the city gets to eat. Not a town, not a street -- the city gets the benefit from the great produce giveaway," says Bell.
Councilwoman Jeanette Herron says this effort was much needed in the community, especially because of the pandemic.
"People are now losing their unemployment, the extra $600, so people are going to be in need. People are going to look for food and this is going to help and I'm hoping that this is a collaboration that can continue," she says.
