Local nonprofit organizations are working together to protect the homeless during the pandemic.
Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim on Sunday thanked Joe Kaliko at the Needs Clearing House for getting people like 45-year-old Tina Morrison off the streets and into hotels.
Morrison, who has MS, says it was terrifying being homeless during the pandemic because her immune system is compromised.
"I want to really truly thank Frank from News 12 and Joe Kaliko for helping me to get out of the homelessness -- out of my car -- and help me getting into the hotel," she says.
"With all that's going on with the pandemic, we can't lose sight of other people in our society that need help, in particular the homeless -- no place to go, no place to self-isolate," says Kaliko, with the Needs Clearing House.
Kaliko says Bridgeport City Councilwoman Anita Martinez helped as well.
