The Norwalk Police Department announced Tuesday it is teaming up with the U.S. Attorney?s Office to crack down on illegal gun crimes in the city.

The U.S. Attorney?s Office will help bring the ?Safe Neighborhood Project? to the city. Police Captain Rosemary Arway said the project has been successful in several neighboring communities. The program will look specifically at crimes involving guns that are committed by convicted felons.

Arway said the partnership with the attorney?s office will help bring aggressive prosecutions on both the state and federal levels. Police officials add those successfully prosecuted on the federal level will face a prison sentence where there is no chance for parole.
