The Norwalk Police Department today launched its new body camera program.
Chief Tom Kulhawik says patrol officers are now equipped with cameras in the field.
Norwalk police demonstrated the body cameras last month.
Chief Kulhawik says the department looked at other body camera programs in the area to make sure theirs would work well for the community.
Mayor Harry Rilling says the program is in response to national events, like what happened in Ferguson, Missouri.
The chief says the body camera program will be implemented in stages so they can address any issues as they arise.
