Norwalk police showed off two new electronic license plate readers Tuesday that were purchased using a federal grant.
The department says the system was installed in police vehicles about three weeks ago and captures information about every car police cruisers pass on the road.
After scanning a license plate, the reader compares the information with a federal database. So far, Lt. David Wrinn says the department has recovered three stolen vehicles, three stolen license plates and located two people that had been reported missing.
