Students at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk took part in Wednesday's nationwide school walkouts in protest of gun violence.

Students say they couldn't sit back and watch demonstrations across the country and felt they had to get involved and do their part. They say it's their job to step up and encourage safer school environments because they think that elected officials are not doing enough.

"I think that this walkout is going to make us feel really united because we're all trying to work towards a common goal," says senior Trinity McFadden.

Brien McMahon students marched to the football field and stood in solidarity with other participants across the country. They heard the names of the 17 victims of the Valentine's Day mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

"I plan to do whatever I can in order to keep this alive and hope for change and a safer future," said Emmet Towey, a junior who helped organize the walkout.

Towey said students will continue participating in movements until they see change happen.
