Michael Annunziado, 90, told News 12 that he helped transport troops in six Pacific invasions and watched kamikaze pilots fly their planes into ships near his.
The Norwalk resident says his brother was severely injured in Iwo Jima and never really recovered. He says getting to visit the memorials to fallen veterans is very important to him.
"To be able to go back and see these things is just an honor," said Annunziado. "I will just pause and say a prayer for those who didn't make it back."
American Warrior, the group sponsoring the event, says this may be the final year they make the trip because many veterans have passed away or are getting to old to travel.
They are asking the public to come out to Bradley Airport Saturday night at 8 p.m. to give the heroes the welcome home they deserve.
