A faith-based organization and community leaders are joining forces against human trafficking and domestic violence.

The first citywide conference for the "Not On My Watch" movement against gender-based crimes was held Wednesday in Concourse Village.

According to the New York State Office of Children and Families, over 2,200 children are subjected to trafficking in New York City. More than 280,000 domestic incident reports were filed in 2013, and over 800 domestic violence homicides were reported in the five boroughs between 2002 and 2013.

Gender-based violence includes sexual abuse, forced labor, prostitution and even modern-day slavery.

Bronx Rev. Que English is among those spearheading the movement. She is working with the Department of Homeland Security in communities with high minority populations like the Bronx and Brooklyn, because three out of every four victims are people of color.

Groups participating today have an initial goal of setting up 200 safe havens across the city for women and children who are victims. They plan on working with law enforcement and government agencies to take action.
