The investigation into the murder of a prominent socialite in North Salem, New York, may have links to some recent burglaries in Connecticut.
New York State Police say 83-year-old Lois Colley was found dead in the laundry room of her 300-acre estate on Monday. She died of blunt force trauma, police determined.
Investigators say they do not believe burglary was the motive behind the killing, as the only item missing is a fire extinguisher that may have been the murder weapon. However, police in Ridgefield are looking for a possible connection to home burglaries since the end of October.
Police say one house on Mamanasco Road was broken into twice - once on Oct. 31 and then on Nov. 1. In another incident, a man with a knife allegedly forced his way into another house on that street Nov. 4.
Mamanasco Road is about a mile away from the state border separating Ridgefield and North Salem.
