Police say the NYPD's Special Victims Unit is investigating an attempted rape inside Prospect Park.

It happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday near 101 East Drive.

Police say a man walked up to a 41-year-old woman and tried to start a conversation with her. When she attempted to walk away, he grabbed her from behind and tried to sexually assault her.

The man ran away after the attack. According to investigators, he is around 6 feet, 2 inches tall and was last seen wearing a hat and a T-shirt.

The NYPD says the woman suffered minor injuries but turned down medical attention.

One parkgoer told News 12 that she regularly visits a couple of spots near the scene of the crime. She says the incident forced her to rethink her safety.

No arrests have been made as of Thursday evening.
