Bridgeport officials are mourning the loss of a firefighter who died in a car crash while off duty.
Police say 34-year-old Jimmie Jones died in the crash Saturday afternoon on Bishop Avenue.
Authorities say Jones somehow lost control of the car he was driving and slammed into a telephone pole.
They say Jones' 13-year-old son and another person were also in the car and are recovering at Bridgeport Hospital.
Shalishea Laws, Jones' sister, said her brother was known for his kindness.
"We just want him to be remembered by that," she said. "We don't want him to be remembered by the wreck."
Assistant Fire Chief Harold Clarke was among Jones' own co-workers who responded to the crash and tried to save him.
"I'll miss his smile and the way he kept us all entertained and happy around the firehouse," he said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
