Officers from neighboring towns to cover police shifts in Bristol as community mourns

Officers from surrounding communities like Torrington and East Hartford are helping to cover police shifts in Bristol this week after two Bristol police officers were killed in a shooting.
Bristol Mayor Jeff Caggiano announced Tuesday that Officer Alex Hamzy has been posthumously promoted to sergeant, and Sgt. Dustin DeMonte was being promoted posthumously to lieutenant, after the two men were killed in an ambush on Oct. 13.
Efforts to raise money for the families of the officers are underway online.
A fundraiser for the families has raised over $300,000.
