The American Academy of Pediatrics says cases of COVID-19 in children are rising, and in the past two weeks – new cases are up by roughly 25%.
The number translates to more than 182,000 new cases last week, the highest weekly number since the pandemic began.
More than 1.8 million children under 17 years old have tested positive for coronavirus, but the AAP says the number is likely underestimated. Children being severely ill, or dying from COVID-19 is still rare.
