The National Transportation Safety Board is now investigating the accident in Florida that killed a family from Bridgeport as the family still grieves.
Seven of the nine people killed were from Bridgeport.
A new guard rail was put up yesterday at the sharp 90-degree curve along Hatton Highway in Florida where the accident happened. The NTSB says it’s a dangerous stretch of road.
"Loss of life, and so it’s important for us to be here," said Alvin Brown, with the NTSB.
The NTSB said it has recovered the SUV from the crash and is investigating it for any electronic data.
Officials said the children, ranging in age from 1 to 14 years old, and three adults, 21, 30 and 56 years old, were killed as their vehicle flipped over and ended up in a canal Monday night. Only one person, 26-year-old Jorden Hall, survived and is awake and speaking.
Investigators said the family of 10 was visiting from out of state to go to a birthday party in Cape Coral. According to the crash report, no one was wearing a seat belt.
"We believe that this crash was catastrophic. A tragic event, and that's why we're here and we're working with Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. We're in great partnership with them, and we're working with them together," said Brown.
Michael Hall Sr. came to Connecticut with his son Michael Hall Jr. so his son could see his family. Now he's living with the pain of his decision.
"I'm going to take him back in a body bag or a casket or such. It's so hard, it’s so hard to really understand," said Hall. The medical examiner has determined that all nine people drowned.
Lloyd Hall, a custodian at Dunbar School in Bridgeport, has lost almost his entire family in this one accident. He said he will live with the pain for the rest of his life.
"It so hurts to know that little kids that were looking at today gone in a split second. I beg God to make it happen to no one else’s family. It's so hurting to me," said Lloyd Hall.
Funeral arrangements are being made. Seven bodies are being flown back to Bridgeport, and the other two are going back to Jamaica.
A GoFundMe has already raised more than half its goal.
The NTSB says it will release a preliminary report in about a month.
