People in Bridgeport are rallying behind a family who lost nine people - three of them children - in a car crash in Florida.
"My sister, my cousin, my nephew," Michael Hall says. "They're all gone. Left me just like that."
Authorities say an overloaded SUV failed to make a turn on a road in Belle Glade, Florida Monday night. The SUV then struck a guardrail and flipped into a canal, according to police.
"It hurts knowing the little kids you were looking after today," Lloyd Hall says. "Are gone in a split second."
The sheriff's office identified two of the passengers who died as 5-year-old Kamdien Edwards and 21-year-old Anyia Monique Lee Tucker — both of Bridgeport.
"It's times like these we have to stand with each other," State Sen. Herron Gaston says. "We are interconnected. When they're in pain, I'm in pain."
The family says it needs help covering funeral expenses and getting family members back to Jamaica for proper burials.
"Bridgeport, although the largest city in Connecticut," Mayor Joe Ganim says. "It is really a very small community where a lot of families and people who know each other care about each other. I've seen that feeling of love and support come out."
A GoFundMe page was set up to help the victims.
