Authorities are searching for a man who went missing Monday while swimming at Pier Pond in Ridgefield, but officials at the scene are now calling the search a “recovery” effort.
Police have not released the victim’s name but say he’s a man in his 30s from New Fairfield.
Police were called to Lake Naraneka around 5 p.m. Monday on a report of a missing swimmer. Authorities believed he entered the water from a home along the lake.
According to police, the man had been swimming with a friend.
Divers from multiple agencies in Ridgefield, Brookfield, Newtown and Danbury were part of the effort until late Monday. State police and Environmental Conservation police are part of the efforts Tuesday.
Officials say the search will continue until it gets dark.
