Stamford fire officials say they are investigating the cause of a challenging brush fire that broke out Tuesday off Barn Hill Road.
The Long Ridge Fire Department in Stamford says the call came in about 8:30 p.m. for a brush fire in the middle of the woods.
They say they could only get the fire trucks so far, so they had to take ATVs through the woods and walk the rest of the way. According to firefighters, it took about 20 minutes just to get to the fire.
Firefighters were battling the flames until about midnight.
Chief Stuart Teitelbaum says other departments responded to help out and make sure there was enough manpower to deal with the difficult situation.
"It was very challenging circumstances. The location was really the challenge, we had enough manpower, we had enough water, it was just getting all the assets to the scene," says Chief Teitelbaum.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
